Work schedule: Monday-Friday 3:00 am to 1:00 pm

JOB SUMMARY:

Molecular Pathology Accessioner under the direction of the Molecular Pathology Accessioning Manager is considered an Accessioning Clerk II who accessions and sends out cases that are associated with the Molecular Pathology department. This position is responsible for handling more advanced accessioning tasks.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Triages, prioritizes, and sorts specimens appropriately for accessioning and processing.
  • Performs data entry concerning patient demographics information, copying requisitions for case folders, and imaging.
  • Scans requisitions and all related paperwork, into the scan system, and shreds documents as needed.
  • Handling of specialty specimens including assembling specimen folders, printing labels, sorting samples by department, filling put paperwork for add-on testing and sending out samples for reference testing.
  • Cover-slip, clean, and file specialty testing slides.
  • Maintaining and stocking consumable supplies for the department.
  • Receive inbound calls from physicians, laboratories, nurses, clients, sales rep, clinics, and hospitals and direct those calls to appropriate personnel and communicate with clients, as necessary.
  • Collect information related to client inquiries/complaints and communicate to Client Services Representative for follow-up and response.
  • Handle difficult calls tactfully, courteously, and professionally.
  • Obtain and return paraffin blocks.
  • Routine clerical duties including filing, faxing, inventory of supplies for the various departments, receiving and distributing mail.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION & LICENSURE:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Medical laboratory experience required.
  • Display an above average rating in accessioning competencies.
